Victim Support and Rehabilitation

Communities in Northern Uganda face escalating human–wildlife conflicts as expanding settlements and agriculture encroach on protected areas such as Kidepo Valley National Parks. Elephants, hippos, and buffaloes frequently invade farmlands, destroying crops and threatening lives. According to the Uganda Wildlife Authority (2023) and NEMA (2022), over 80% of incidents involve human injury, crop destructions, with annual losses exceeding UGX 4 billion, while 30–40 people are injured or killed each month. The problem is worsened by drought and habitat loss, which drive wildlife into community lands.

What We Achieved

Coexist Wild’s mitigation work bridges people and wildlife through education and restoration. By supporting community-led habitat recovery and fostering awareness about coexistence, we’ve strengthened local resilience, restored critical wildlife corridors, and built a foundation for lasting harmony between nature and people.

They Need Your Help!

There is a strong evidence that abandonment and underfeeding of Dogs contribute significantly to the free-roaming dog population in Uganda. Veterinary services are often expensive and scarce, especially in rural areas. When a dog falls sick, owners may opt to abandon it rather than incur the cost of treatment
